Film Screening: “American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors”

Date: Sunday, September 29th
Time: 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM
Location:  Temple Beth Ami

Join us for a special presentation by our very own producer, Stan Hankin, as he shares film footage of the first-ever American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors, which he helped produce. This historic event took place in April 1983 and included an opening ceremony at The Capital Center in Landover, MD, where 17,000 attendees—mostly survivors—gathered to celebrate their journey to freedom and hear remarks from President Ronald Reagan.

Highlights from the gathering included:

  • The Survivors Village, where survivors used computers to reconnect with friends and family.
  • Performances showcasing Jewish Heritage at the Washington Monument and DAR Constitution Hall.
  • Meetings with members of Congress.

The screening will feature video highlights, including news coverage, a segment of President Reagan’s opening night speech, and the celebratory performances. You won’t want to miss the chance to watch this compelling footage.

Encore will be providing a complimentary lite lunch with the presentation. While the event is free, RSVP is required by Monday, September 23rd to ensure an accurate count for lunch. To RSVP, email Linda Cohen at lincohen@hotmail.com. If you’d like to contribute a dessert, salad, or fruit, please let Linda know when you RSVP.
