Kim Roberts – Director of Education
Kim Roberts joined Temple Beth Ami in July 2008. Prior to joining the Beth Ami family, Kim served as the Director of Education at Temple Ahavat Shalom in Northridge, CA. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware with a dual major in Education (K-8) and Special Education (K-12). In May 2004, she received her Masters Degree in Jewish Education, graduating with Honors, from Baltimore Hebrew University. Kim grew up in Northern Virginia, where she was an active member of her synagogue, her temple youth group and NFTY. Upon graduation from college, Kim served as the Director of Informal Youth Education at Temple Oheb Shalom in Baltimore, MD and eventually as the High School Supervisor. In July 2004, Kim was hired as the Assistant Principal of Temple Ahavat Shalom in Northridge, California. After serving two years in that capacity, she became the Director of Education and Youth Programming. Kim is a member of the NATE (National Association of Temple Educators) and in 2009 was awarded as a RJE (Reform Jewish Educator). Kim has an unending passion for youth work, camp, and making Jewish education come alive! Kim’s husband, Sam, is also a part of the Machane TBA faculty family and together they have three children Adin, Noa and Yael.
Lori Fein – L’mala Primary Supervisor, TBAHigh Supervisor
Lori Fein taught second grade (Bet) at Temple Beth Ami for three years, then gladly accepted the Primary Supervisor position, with the opportunity to focus on our youngest students. She feels fortunate to have added another dimension to her job by becoming the TBAHigh Supervisor. She enjoys spending time with students of all ages and seeing them blossom in the various stages and aspects of their lives. Being Jewish is an essential part of who she is. She loves the culture, holidays, language, songs and prayers that are familiar to her from her childhood. She hopes to instill that same love for Judaism in her children and yours, by showing them how much enjoyment comes from being Jewish. She and her husband, David, have two sons, Kyle and Derek.
Lisa Goodman – Grades 3-7 L\’mala Supervisor
Elaine Prigal – Grades 3-6 L’mata and Kayitz Supervisor
Elaine joined the Temple Beth Ami staff in August 2014. Elaine began working in the TBA community as a TBA High and L’mata teacher. As the year progressed, Elaine stepped into her new role as L’mata/Kayitz supervisor for Beth Ami. Elaine received her undergraduate degree from the College of Charleston with a dual major in Special Education (K-12) and Jewish Studies. Elaine grew up in the Greater Washington area attending the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School and was an active participant in United Synagogue Youth. Before working at Temple Beth Ami, Elaine spent her summers at Capital Camps as a counselor, training CIT’s and in the role of supervisor for the 3rd through 5th grade village. Elaine is extremely passionate about experiential education and is thrilled to be working with our award winning L’mata program as well as further developing our experiential education opportunities through our Camp Kayitz program.
Sharon Tash – Curriculum Specialist
Sharon has been a member of our school faculty since 1998. She currently serves as the Curriculum Specialist, creating lessons and large-scale programs for students in grades 3-12. Sharon is also a member of the Adult Education “Live and Learn” faculty at Temple Beth Ami. Trained as an historian, Sharon worked on the start-up team at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum and she taught at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School. Sharon and her husband Nathan have 3 kids, all of whom are pursuing degrees in higher education. When she isn’t at TBA running a program or teaching a class, Sharon loves to watch films, attend theater, travel and (her favorite) go to Walt Disney World.
Bobbie Chait – Machane & Kayitz Registrar and Office Manager
Bobbie joined Temple Beth Ami in September 1998. She supports the staff and Temple congregants in the school and camp community on a daily basis regarding any issue pertaining to the smooth and efficient running of the Machane/Kayitz office. Bobbie grew up in New Jersey and moved to Maryland in 1980. She has two sons, Greg and Matt.
Adam Zimmerman

Professional work: Adam has been teaching at Machane since 2017 to honor his grandparents, Frieda and Morris Zimmerman, who were Holocaust survivors. He is a vice president at Burness, a public interest communications firm in Bethesda. He previously worked on Capitol Hill and as a lobbyist.

Allan Sull

Alyssa Katon
Alyssa grew up attending Machane TBA. She began her work with us as a L’mata teacher and TBAHigh Advisor in 2019, while also serving as a 2nd grade teacher with Montgomery County Public Schools and a leadership role at Capital Camps. In 2022 Alyssa joined the Machane TBA Professional Staff full time as the Supervisor for L’mata and for TBAHigh.

Linda Burgin – Gimel L’mala
Hello! During my 36 years at Temple Beth Ami, I have taught 8th and 9th grade; acted as a permanent substitute teacher for grades 3-7; taught 3rd grade for 14 years; 4th grade for one year; and served as the Confirmation Coordinator for nine years as well as the 12th grade advisor for a year. In this coming year, I am looking forward to working with my two sets of third graders in the Gimel class on Sunday. In all my varied teaching experiences at Temple Beth Ami, I have enjoyed my students and their families. Teaching multi-level grade levels has provided an invaluable sensitivity to student’s educational needs. My past involvement as co-chair of the “To Bring About” project also allowed me to get to know my students and families from yet another perspective. For the last eight years, I have been a committee member and director of TBA Cares and that involvement has continued my strong involvement in congregational life. This year will be another exciting year of teaching and learning together!

Adam Cines is a Junior at the University of Maryland majoring in English and Film Studies. His hobbies include soccer, reading, and playing guitar. After just having spent a summer in Israel, he is excited to teach kids about all of the amazing aspects of Judaism. Also, if you have a great pun, be sure to let him know!

Erin Felrice

Professional work: Currently a special education para educator at Rachel Carson ES. Previously a learning specialist at The Bullis School, special education resource teacher for Montgomery County, MD, and Prince William County, VA, schools. Senior Program Analyst at SAMHSA.

Erin Dross Felrice – Bet L’mala
Erin is a primary teacher at Temple Beth Ami. She and her family became members of the Temple in 2014. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from The University of South Florida and a Master’s degree in Special Education, with an emphasis on learning disabilities, from The American University. Erin has taught in both private and public schools as a resource teacher, reading specialist, private tutor, and para educator. In addition to teaching at Temple Beth Ami, she is currently a para educator at Rachel Carson Elementary School.
Oren Fromberg – Vav L’mala
Oren was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and is a professional software engineer. His passions include mountain biking, learning languages, Israel, and Torah. He lives with his wife Laurie and three children Maor, Naomi, and Tomer in the great community of the West End.
Ben Goodman – Vav L’mala
Ben is a graduate from Michigan State University, where he majored in political science. He has been a teacher since 2014, and was a student of Beth Ami. He enjoys music, sports, and reading a really good book. Ben is particularly passionate about Israel education. He has been to Israel twice, once with his family and once on Birthright. He loves to teach and help his students learn not only about Judaism but also about themselves and their fellow classmates. Go Green!

Jody Rosenblum

Professional work: Jody has taught both Gesher and Gan classes. She has taught 3 and 4 year olds at TBA Nursery School since 1993. She thoroughly enjoys teaching young children the Jewish holidays and traditions. Making connections with children and families is an important piece of working at Machane on Sunday mornings.
Favorite Pastime: Spending time at the beach, reading, playing mah jongg and canasta, and spending time with her grand-daughter.

Ally Kahler – Alef
Ally Kahler is originally from New York, grew up in Southern California and has resided in Maryland since 1990 where she attended the University of Maryland at College Park. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, was a full time teacher in Montgomery County Public Schools for 5 years, and is presently a substitute teacher in the county. As well as a 1st grade teacher at Beth Ami, Ally has a very active home life raising three energetic sons. Jack, Ben, and Josh have attended religious school at Beth Ami and two of her three sons have been called to the Torah to become Bar Mitzvah. They are her pride and joy and she hopes that some of her positive parenting skills shine within her classroom as well. Ally and her husband, James, live in the Kentlands and both enjoy spending quality time with their boys, and their four-legged furry friend, Phineas. She has run the Purim Carnival here at Beth Ami for 5 years and she can also be seen performing in and choreographing Purim Shpiels and shows with the TBA Players.

Linda King – Gan
Linda joined the Machane TBA staff in 2016 and loves teaching the Gan students. She has a passion for children and has spent the past 13 years growing and raising her family with her husband, Josh. Originally from New York, Linda attended the University of Maryland at College Park where she received her bachelor\’s degree in General Business and Management. She started her career in the hospitality industry at the Four Seasons and worked in hotel management for 14 years for Hyatt, Starwood, Ritz-Carlton, Hay-Adams and Watergate. Linda was the Director of Group Sales at The Watergate Hotel until 2007 when she left to raise her family full-time. Linda and Josh, along with their four children, Lily, Zachary, Chase and Brody, are very active in the FARE (Food Allergy & Research Education) community, planning and supporting annual fundraising efforts. In addition to teaching at Machane TBA, Linda enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering at Stone Mill Elementary School, event planning for iSparkle, baking with her kids and visiting her parents in Bethany Beach. She is thrilled to have three of her children in the religious school at Temple Beth Ami and one in the nursery school.
Tamar Lewkowitz – TBAHigh
Tamar joined the Temple Beth Ami faculty in 2016, and rejoined for the 2018-2019 school year. Tamar received her undergraduate degree in Special Education (K-12) from the College of Charleston in 2015, and is a certified Vinyasa Yoga, Yoga for Children, and Yoga for Children with Special Needs teacher. Upon graduation she spent the year in Rishon Lezion, Israel, on the Masa Israel Teaching Fellows program, teaching English to elementary aged children. Throughout that year, she volunteered weekly, co-teaching yoga at a private school for kids with autism. When Tamar returned back to the United States in 2016, she moved from her hometown in New Jersey, and accepted the K-3 Autism teaching position at the Katherine Thomas School in Rockville, Maryland. Tamar is thrilled to join the TBA community and learn from the students and staff, as well as bring her own love, traditions, and experience from Israel and school into the classroom.
Michal Limonchik – Hay L’mala
Michal has been teaching at Temple Beth Ami since 1998, when she moved to Rockville from Israel. Michal has taught 4th through 7th grade. Her love for Israel and the Hebrew language is contagious. In her free time, Michal loves spending time with her family, travelling, reading, watching movies and trying out new restaurants.

Lori Rosenstock
Lori joined the Machane TBA Professional Staff team in 2019 to provide administrative assistance, including maintaining the website, parent communications and other office support. Prior to this, she was an Executive Assistant in International Lodging at Marriott International for 18 years.
Lori enjoys photography, reading and spending time at her families summer cottages on a lake in Maine. She and her husband, Matt have one daughter, Julia. They have been members of Temple Beth Ami for many years, and are active members of the TBA community.
Rivka Magier – Grade 8
I was raised in Scottsdale, Arizona and moved to Maryland to finish high school. I am now a junior at the University of Maryland in College Park studying Psychology and Family Science. I have an older sister, an older brother, and a twin brother who goes to Arizona State as well as a 3 year old niece who makes every day an adventure.

Cara O’Connor – Bet L’Mala
Cara and her husband, Shaun, have been long-time members of Temple Beth Ami. They live in Gaithersburg with their two children, Danny and Betsy. Cara was an active TBA volunteer during the time that her kids were students in the nursery school and Machane TBA. She is very excited to be back at TBA in an active role as a Bet teacher. Cara adores children and is thrilled to be able to reconnect with many TBA families. She holds a BA in Dance, an AA in theater and a certificate in Early Childhood Development. Cara’s first career was as a dance teacher and choreographer. She retired from full-time teaching when she became a mom. As her children got older, Cara taught dance classes in her home studio, taught toddlers and twos at a Jewish nursery school, and currently works as an elementary school Para-educator for MCPS.
Sharon Peska – TBA JrHigh
My name is Sharon Peska, I am a mother of 3 teenagers, a son and twin daughters who all attended Beth Ami. I am a social worker by profession and I work at a rehab hospital. I am originally from Houston, Texas where I was born and raised. I have been in Maryland for 20 years. I have been a Religious school teacher at Beth Ami since the 2013-14 school year. I love teaching and I love being a part of a wonderful community.

Sam Roberts – Vav L’mata & TBA JrHigh
Sam Roberts is originally from California and is thrilled to be a part of the Machne TBA Faculty. After 20 plus years in direct service to Jewish Camping as a Camp Director and Executive Director, Sam now serves as a consultant to Summer Camps across North America. Sam lives in Gaithersburg with his wife Kim and three children, Adin, Noa and Yael. This will be Sam’s third year on faculty.
Jody Rosenblum – Gan and Primary Enrichment
Jody has taught both Gesher and Gan classes. She comes up to Machane TBA from TBA Nursery School, where she has taught three- and four-year-old children since 1993. She thoroughly enjoys teaching young children about the Jewish holidays and traditions. When not teaching, Jody loves to read, cook, bake, and play Mah Jongg. Jody has two married children and an adorable granddaughter.
Sherry Rubin – Permanent Substitute
I have been part of the Machane family since school year 2015-16. I’m lucky enough to spend more time with some TBA kids as an attendance secretary at Rachel Carson ES and as a yoga instructor at Camp Louise. On the home front, I have two boys who attend Quince Orchard HS and Ridgeview MS.
Lisa Ruhl-Movit – Dalet L’mata
Lisa is very excited to start her third year teaching in the L’Mata program at Temple Beth Ami. This year she will be teaching both 5th and 6th grade. Lisa grew up in Massachusetts and has a bachelor’s degree from Westfield State University and a master’s degree in journalism and digital media from Arizona State University. Lisa and her husband live in Herndon, Virginia with their dog Howie. When not teaching at Temple Beth Ami, Lisa works as a video producer in Washington, D.C.
Sam Roberts

Sam Roberts is originally from California where he grew up at Jewish summer camp. Sam later taught Hebrew school as he received his undergraduate degree in Development Psychology from UC Davis and then later earning his nonprofit MBA. Now over 20 years in direct service in Jewish Camping as a Camp Director at Camp Swig/Newman, Camp Harlam and Capital Camps, Sam now serves as a consultant to Summer Camps across North America through his position at Camp America. Through his current position, he works with camps to hire, recruit and support international staff. Sam also serves on the board of Scope (Summer Camp Opportunities Promotes Education) which is a nonprofit organization that provides children from underserved communities with life changing opportunities through the experience of summer camp.

Sam’s loves spending time with his wife, Kim, who is the Director of Education, and his three children Adin, Noa and Yael. Sam enjoys traveling, helping to coach his kids sports teams and BBQing.

Allan Sull – Gimel L’mala and TBA JrHigh
Allan has been teaching at Temple Beth Ami since 1991. In that year he moved to Maryland from Buffalo, New York where he had previously taught religious school since 1971. At some point in his career, he has taught every grade, kindergarten through High School, college and adult education. Allan has a BA and MA in History from SUNY at Buffalo, and MA in Special Education from The George Washington University. Allan is certified in both Special Education and Social Studies, and in his day job, Allan teaches for MCPS as a special education/social studies teacher to high school students with serious emotional disabilities. In his spare time, he is a devoted follower of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres and Washington Nationals. He also enjoys listening to old-time radio shows. Allan loves reading, both fiction and non-fiction. He also enjoys ballroom dancing.

Alexis Tanenbaum – Resource Specialist
I am a resource teacher for the upcoming school year. I am a recent graduate from the University of Maryland, and am continuing my studies at the University to get my Masters in Education with a concentration in School Counseling. I grew up in Montgomery County and am a member of Temple Beth Ami, so I am a veteran of the Hebrew School program. I am so excited to get to know your kids, and look forward to meeting you and your children.
Mira Tash – Hey L’mala
Shalom! My name is Mira Tash and I am very excited to be teaching with Machane TBA this year. I am a junior at the University of Maryland studying special education. When I’m not in the classroom as either a student or teacher I enjoy dancing with Avirah-UMD’s Israeli Dance Troupe, seeing Broadway musicals, and watching Meryl Streep movies with my mom. I look forward to a wonderful year of learning!
Megan Treby – Primary Art Specialist
Megan Treby grew up here at Beth Ami and has been on staff since she was 15 years old. She has two children who have also grown up here, the youngest having her Bat Mitzvah this past summer. In addition teaching primary art on Sundays, Ms. Treby also provides the aftercare for the temple nursery school.
Heather Walter – Inclusion Specialist
Heather Walter has extensive experience in teaching, coaching and supervising teachers in New York City, Maryland, and The District of Columbia. Mrs. Walter has deep knowledge of academic and social-emotional development for children with and at risk for disabilities and is skilled at differentiating instruction for all learners. Her current research interests include the study of non-academic variables associated with teaching and learning in special education as well as educational practices that support prosocial interactions, self-regulation, and overall healthy social emotional development for children with and at risk for disabilities.
Mrs. Walter has a bachelor’s degree in Jewish Education, a master’s degree from Teachers College, Columbia University in Inclusive Elementary Education and Teaching Students with Disabilities, and an Educational Specialist Degree, which prepares administrators for inclusive early intervention/ early childhood special education settings. Ms. Walter is currently pursuing her Doctorate degree in Special Education and Disability Studies at the George Washington University where she also is a visiting faculty in the Early Childhood Special Education Department. She lives in Gaithersburg with her husband and two children and is excited to be back at Machane TBA!
Jen Weil – Bet
Jen is very excited to begin her fifth year teaching 2nd grade religious school at Temple Beth Ami. As a child, Jen attended religious school, had her Bat Mitzvah and had her Confirmation all here at Temple Beth Ami, and she is thrilled to now teach here and have her own children go through the program. Jen has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Haverford College in Pennsylvania, and a law degree from the University of Virginia. For many years she practiced public interest law, and then she made the decision to stay home with her children. Having children with food intolerances, Jen developed a passion for nutrition particularly children’s nutrition. This passion led her to return to school and do coursework in holistic nutrition. She is now working as a holistic health coach, working with individual clients and teaching classes for individuals at risk for developing diabetes. Jen lives in Gaithersburg with her husband Mike and her three sons Jacob, Zachary and Nathan.
Alisa Weinstein – Alef
Alisa and her family joined Temple Beth Ami in 2010, when her daughter entered kindergarten. Alisa’s childhood was steeped in Jewish activities—her parents were founding members of Bet Breira (Miami, FL) and activists for Soviet Jewry. She attended the Alexander Muss High School in Israel program, as well as the Tel Aviv Overseas Student Program, and graduated from the University of Maryland with a minor in Jewish studies (major: Journalism, advertising). An internationally recognized copywriter, Alisa also created the award-winning “Earn My Keep,” a financial and life literacy program for children in grades K-6. She leverages her experiences as a speaker, trainer and teacher to nurture her students’ self-efficacy, self-respect and self-reliance. Alisa lives in Potomac with her husband, two kids, overgrown puppy and impressive collection of unfolded laundry.
Kate Wernick – Gan
Mrs. Wernick loves joyful Jewish learning. She has taught Kindergarten and first grade at MachaneTBA and previously at Seven Locks Elementary School, in Prince George’s County, and at Ballet Petite. Her background is in Musical Theatre and she enjoys bringing a bit of drama and magic into her classroom by infusing Torah stories and Midrash with wonder and awe using sensory experiences. Mrs. Wernick is a full time mom to three boys (TBANS students and alumnae) and an active volunteer and philanthropist. When not teaching, she enjoys cooking, exercising, and reading.

Kim Roberts – Director of Education
Kim Roberts joined Temple Beth Ami in July 2008. Prior to joining the Beth Ami family, Kim served as the Director of Education at Temple Ahavat Shalom in Northridge, CA. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware with a dual major in Education (K-8) and Special Education (K-12). In May 2004, she received her Masters Degree in Jewish Education, graduating with Honors, from Baltimore Hebrew University. Kim grew up in Northern Virginia, where she was an active member of her synagogue, her temple youth group and NFTY. Upon graduation from college, Kim served as the Director of Informal Youth Education at Temple Oheb Shalom in Baltimore, MD and eventually as the High School Supervisor. In July 2004, Kim was hired as the Assistant Principal of Temple Ahavat Shalom in Northridge, California. After serving two years in that capacity, she became the Director of Education and Youth Programming. Kim is a member of the NATE (National Association of Temple Educators) and in 2009 was awarded as a RJE (Reform Jewish Educator). Kim has an unending passion for youth work, camp, and making Jewish education come alive! Kim’s husband, Sam, is also a part of the Machane TBA faculty family and together they have three children Adin, Noa and Yael.
Lori Fein – L’mala Primary Supervisor, TBAHigh Supervisor
Lori Fein taught second grade (Bet) at Temple Beth Ami for three years, then gladly accepted the Primary Supervisor position, with the opportunity to focus on our youngest students. She feels fortunate to have added another dimension to her job by becoming the TBAHigh Supervisor. She enjoys spending time with students of all ages and seeing them blossom in the various stages and aspects of their lives. Being Jewish is an essential part of who she is. She loves the culture, holidays, language, songs and prayers that are familiar to her from her childhood. She hopes to instill that same love for Judaism in her children and yours, by showing them how much enjoyment comes from being Jewish. She and her husband, David, have two sons, Kyle and Derek.
Lisa Goodman – Grades 3-7 L\’mala Supervisor
Elaine Prigal – Grades 3-6 L’mata and Kayitz Supervisor
Elaine joined the Temple Beth Ami staff in August 2014. Elaine began working in the TBA community as a TBA High and L’mata teacher. As the year progressed, Elaine stepped into her new role as L’mata/Kayitz supervisor for Beth Ami. Elaine received her undergraduate degree from the College of Charleston with a dual major in Special Education (K-12) and Jewish Studies. Elaine grew up in the Greater Washington area attending the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School and was an active participant in United Synagogue Youth. Before working at Temple Beth Ami, Elaine spent her summers at Capital Camps as a counselor, training CIT’s and in the role of supervisor for the 3rd through 5th grade village. Elaine is extremely passionate about experiential education and is thrilled to be working with our award winning L’mata program as well as further developing our experiential education opportunities through our Camp Kayitz program.
Sharon Tash – Curriculum Specialist
Sharon has been a member of our school faculty since 1998. She currently serves as the Curriculum Specialist, creating lessons and large-scale programs for students in grades 3-12. Sharon is also a member of the Adult Education “Live and Learn” faculty at Temple Beth Ami. Trained as an historian, Sharon worked on the start-up team at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum and she taught at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School. Sharon and her husband Nathan have 3 kids, all of whom are pursuing degrees in higher education. When she isn’t at TBA running a program or teaching a class, Sharon loves to watch films, attend theater, travel and (her favorite) go to Walt Disney World.
Bobbie Chait – Machane & Kayitz Registrar and Office Manager
Bobbie joined Temple Beth Ami in September 1998. She supports the staff and Temple congregants in the school and camp community on a daily basis regarding any issue pertaining to the smooth and efficient running of the Machane/Kayitz office. Bobbie grew up in New Jersey and moved to Maryland in 1980. She has two sons, Greg and Matt.
Adam Zimmerman

Professional work: Adam has been teaching at Machane since 2017 to honor his grandparents, Frieda and Morris Zimmerman, who were Holocaust survivors. He is a vice president at Burness, a public interest communications firm in Bethesda. He previously worked on Capitol Hill and as a lobbyist.

Alyssa Katon
Alyssa grew up attending Machane TBA. She began her work with us as a L’mata teacher and TBAHigh Advisor in 2019, while also serving as a 2nd grade teacher with Montgomery County Public Schools and a leadership role at Capital Camps. In 2022 Alyssa joined the Machane TBA Professional Staff full time as the Supervisor for L’mata and for TBAHigh.

Linda Burgin – Gimel L’mala
Hello! During my 36 years at Temple Beth Ami, I have taught 8th and 9th grade; acted as a permanent substitute teacher for grades 3-7; taught 3rd grade for 14 years; 4th grade for one year; and served as the Confirmation Coordinator for nine years as well as the 12th grade advisor for a year. In this coming year, I am looking forward to working with my two sets of third graders in the Gimel class on Sunday. In all my varied teaching experiences at Temple Beth Ami, I have enjoyed my students and their families. Teaching multi-level grade levels has provided an invaluable sensitivity to student’s educational needs. My past involvement as co-chair of the “To Bring About” project also allowed me to get to know my students and families from yet another perspective. For the last eight years, I have been a committee member and director of TBA Cares and that involvement has continued my strong involvement in congregational life. This year will be another exciting year of teaching and learning together!

Erin Dross Felrice – Bet L’mala
Erin is a primary teacher at Temple Beth Ami. She and her family became members of the Temple in 2014. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from The University of South Florida and a Master’s degree in Special Education, with an emphasis on learning disabilities, from The American University. Erin has taught in both private and public schools as a resource teacher, reading specialist, private tutor, and para educator. In addition to teaching at Temple Beth Ami, she is currently a para educator at Rachel Carson Elementary School.
Oren Fromberg – Vav L’mala
Oren was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and is a professional software engineer. His passions include mountain biking, learning languages, Israel, and Torah. He lives with his wife Laurie and three children Maor, Naomi, and Tomer in the great community of the West End.

Ben is a graduate from Michigan State University, where he majored in political science. He has been a teacher since 2014, and was a student of Beth Ami. Jody Rosenblum

Professional work: Jody has taught both Gesher and Gan classes. She has taught 3 and 4 year olds at TBA Nursery School since 1993. She thoroughly enjoys teaching young children the Jewish holidays and traditions. Making connections with children and families is an important piece of working at Machane on Sunday mornings.

Ally Kahler – Alef
Ally Kahler is originally from New York, grew up in Southern California and has resided in Maryland since 1990 where she attended the University of Maryland at College Park. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, was a full time teacher in Montgomery County Public Schools for 5 years, and is presently a substitute teacher in the county. As well as a 1st grade teacher at Beth Ami, Ally has a very active home life raising three energetic sons. Jack, Ben, and Josh have attended religious school at Beth Ami and two of her three sons have been called to the Torah to become Bar Mitzvah. They are her pride and joy and she hopes that some of her positive parenting skills shine within her classroom as well. Ally and her husband, James, live in the Kentlands and both enjoy spending quality time with their boys, and their four-legged furry friend, Phineas. She has run the Purim Carnival here at Beth Ami for 5 years and she can also be seen performing in and choreographing Purim Shpiels and shows with the TBA Players.

Linda King – Gan
Linda joined the Machane TBA staff in 2016 and loves teaching the Gan students. She has a passion for children and has spent the past 13 years growing and raising her family with her husband, Josh. Originally from New York, Linda attended the University of Maryland at College Park where she received her bachelor\’s degree in General Business and Management. She started her career in the hospitality industry at the Four Seasons and worked in hotel management for 14 years for Hyatt, Starwood, Ritz-Carlton, Hay-Adams and Watergate. Linda was the Director of Group Sales at The Watergate Hotel until 2007 when she left to raise her family full-time. Linda and Josh, along with their four children, Lily, Zachary, Chase and Brody, are very active in the FARE (Food Allergy & Research Education) community, planning and supporting annual fundraising efforts. In addition to teaching at Machane TBA, Linda enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering at Stone Mill Elementary School, event planning for iSparkle, baking with her kids and visiting her parents in Bethany Beach. She is thrilled to have three of her children in the religious school at Temple Beth Ami and one in the nursery school.
Tamar Lewkowitz – TBAHigh
Tamar joined the Temple Beth Ami faculty in 2016, and rejoined for the 2018-2019 school year. Tamar received her undergraduate degree in Special Education (K-12) from the College of Charleston in 2015, and is a certified Vinyasa Yoga, Yoga for Children, and Yoga for Children with Special Needs teacher. Upon graduation she spent the year in Rishon Lezion, Israel, on the Masa Israel Teaching Fellows program, teaching English to elementary aged children. Throughout that year, she volunteered weekly, co-teaching yoga at a private school for kids with autism. When Tamar returned back to the United States in 2016, she moved from her hometown in New Jersey, and accepted the K-3 Autism teaching position at the Katherine Thomas School in Rockville, Maryland. Tamar is thrilled to join the TBA community and learn from the students and staff, as well as bring her own love, traditions, and experience from Israel and school into the classroom.
Michal Limonchik – Hay L’mala
Michal has been teaching at Temple Beth Ami since 1998, when she moved to Rockville from Israel. Michal has taught 4th through 7th grade. Her love for Israel and the Hebrew language is contagious. In her free time, Michal loves spending time with her family, travelling, reading, watching movies and trying out new restaurants.

Lori Rosenstock
Lori joined the Machane TBA Professional Staff team in 2019 to provide administrative assistance, including maintaining the website, parent communications and other office support. Prior to this, she was an Executive Assistant in International Lodging at Marriott International for 18 years.
Lori enjoys photography, reading and spending time at her families summer cottages on a lake in Maine. She and her husband, Matt have one daughter, Julia. They have been members of Temple Beth Ami for many years, and are active members of the TBA community.
Rivka Magier – Grade 8
I was raised in Scottsdale, Arizona and moved to Maryland to finish high school. I am now a junior at the University of Maryland in College Park studying Psychology and Family Science. I have an older sister, an older brother, and a twin brother who goes to Arizona State as well as a 3 year old niece who makes every day an adventure.

Cara O’Connor – Bet L’Mala
Cara and her husband, Shaun, have been long-time members of Temple Beth Ami. They live in Gaithersburg with their two children, Danny and Betsy. Cara was an active TBA volunteer during the time that her kids were students in the nursery school and Machane TBA. She is very excited to be back at TBA in an active role as a Bet teacher. Cara adores children and is thrilled to be able to reconnect with many TBA families. She holds a BA in Dance, an AA in theater and a certificate in Early Childhood Development. Cara’s first career was as a dance teacher and choreographer. She retired from full-time teaching when she became a mom. As her children got older, Cara taught dance classes in her home studio, taught toddlers and twos at a Jewish nursery school, and currently works as an elementary school Para-educator for MCPS.

My name is Sharon Peska, I am a mother of 3 teenagers, a son and twin daughters who all attended Beth Ami. I am a social worker by profession and I work at a rehab hospital. I am originally from Houston, Texas where I was born and raised. I have been in Maryland for 20 years. I have been a Religious school teacher at Beth Ami since the 2013-14 school year. I love teaching and I love being a part of a wonderful community.

Sam Roberts is originally from California and is thrilled to be a part of the Machne TBA Faculty. After 20 plus years in direct service to Jewish Camping as a Camp Director and Executive Director, Sam now serves as a consultant to Summer Camps across North America. Sam lives in Gaithersburg with his wife Kim and three children, Adin, Noa and Yael. This will be Sam’s third year on faculty.
Jody Rosenblum – Gan and Primary Enrichment
Jody has taught both Gesher and Gan classes. She comes up to Machane TBA from TBA Nursery School, where she has taught three- and four-year-old children since 1993. She thoroughly enjoys teaching young children about the Jewish holidays and traditions. When not teaching, Jody loves to read, cook, bake, and play Mah Jongg. Sherry Rubin – Permanent Substitute
I have been part of the Machane family since school year 2015-16. I’m lucky enough to spend more time with some TBA kids as an attendance secretary at Rachel Carson ES and as a yoga instructor at Camp Louise. On the home front, I have two boys who attend Quince Orchard HS and Ridgeview MS.
Lisa Ruhl-Movit – Dalet L’mata
Lisa is very excited to start her third year teaching in the L’Mata program at Temple Beth Ami. This year she will be teaching both 5th and 6th grade. Lisa grew up in Massachusetts and has a bachelor’s degree from Westfield State University and a master’s degree in journalism and digital media from Arizona State University. Lisa and her husband live in Herndon, Virginia with their dog Howie. When not teaching at Temple Beth Ami, Lisa works as a video producer in Washington, D.C.

Sam Roberts is originally from California where he grew up at Jewish summer camp. Sam later taught Hebrew school as he received his undergraduate degree in Development Psychology from UC Davis and then later earning his nonprofit MBA. Now over 20 years in direct service in Jewish Camping as a Camp Director at Camp Swig/Newman, Camp Harlam and Capital Camps, Sam now serves as a consultant to Summer Camps across North America through his position at Camp America. Through his current position, he works with camps to hire, recruit and support international staff. Sam also serves on the board of Scope (Summer Camp Opportunities Promotes Education) which is a nonprofit organization that provides children from underserved communities with life changing opportunities through the experience of summer camp.

Allan Sull – Gimel L’mala and TBA JrHigh
Allan has been teaching at Temple Beth Ami since 1991. In that year he moved to Maryland from Buffalo, New York where he had previously taught religious school since 1971. At some point in his career, he has taught every grade, kindergarten through High School, college and adult education. Allan has a BA and MA in History from SUNY at Buffalo, and MA in Special Education from The George Washington University. Allan is certified in both Special Education and Social Studies, and in his day job, Allan teaches for MCPS as a special education/social studies teacher to high school students with serious emotional disabilities. In his spare time, he is a devoted follower of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres and Washington Nationals. He also enjoys listening to old-time radio shows. Allan loves reading, both fiction and non-fiction. He also enjoys ballroom dancing.

Alexis Tanenbaum – Resource Specialist
I am a resource teacher for the upcoming school year. I am a recent graduate from the University of Maryland, and am continuing my studies at the University to get my Masters in Education with a concentration in School Counseling. I grew up in Montgomery County and am a member of Temple Beth Ami, so I am a veteran of the Hebrew School program. I am so excited to get to know your kids, and look forward to meeting you and your children.
Mira Tash – Hey L’mala
Shalom! My name is Mira Tash and I am very excited to be teaching with Machane TBA this year. I am a junior at the University of Maryland studying special education. When I’m not in the classroom as either a student or teacher I enjoy dancing with Avirah-UMD’s Israeli Dance Troupe, seeing Broadway musicals, and watching Meryl Streep movies with my mom. I look forward to a wonderful year of learning!
Megan Treby – Primary Art Specialist
Megan Treby grew up here at Beth Ami and has been on staff since she was 15 years old. She has two children who have also grown up here, the youngest having her Bat Mitzvah this past summer. In addition teaching primary art on Sundays, Ms. Treby also provides the aftercare for the temple nursery school.
Heather Walter – Inclusion Specialist
Heather Walter has extensive experience in teaching, coaching and supervising teachers in New York City, Maryland, and The District of Columbia. Mrs. Walter has deep knowledge of academic and social-emotional development for children with and at risk for disabilities and is skilled at differentiating instruction for all learners. Her current research interests include the study of non-academic variables associated with teaching and learning in special education as well as educational practices that support prosocial interactions, self-regulation, and overall healthy social emotional development for children with and at risk for disabilities.
Mrs. Walter has a bachelor’s degree in Jewish Education, a master’s degree from Teachers College, Columbia University in Inclusive Elementary Education and Teaching Students with Disabilities, and an Educational Specialist Degree, which prepares administrators for inclusive early intervention/ early childhood special education settings. Ms. Walter is currently pursuing her Doctorate degree in Special Education and Disability Studies at the George Washington University where she also is a visiting faculty in the Early Childhood Special Education Department. She lives in Gaithersburg with her husband and two children and is excited to be back at Machane TBA!
Jen Weil – Bet
Jen is very excited to begin her fifth year teaching 2nd grade religious school at Temple Beth Ami. As a child, Jen attended religious school, had her Bat Mitzvah and had her Confirmation all here at Temple Beth Ami, and she is thrilled to now teach here and have her own children go through the program. Jen has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Haverford College in Pennsylvania, and a law degree from the University of Virginia. For many years she practiced public interest law, and then she made the decision to stay home with her children. Having children with food intolerances, Jen developed a passion for nutrition particularly children’s nutrition. This passion led her to return to school and do coursework in holistic nutrition. She is now working as a holistic health coach, working with individual clients and teaching classes for individuals at risk for developing diabetes. Jen lives in Gaithersburg with her husband Mike and her three sons Jacob, Zachary and Nathan.
Alisa Weinstein – Alef
Alisa and her family joined Temple Beth Ami in 2010, when her daughter entered kindergarten. Alisa’s childhood was steeped in Jewish activities—her parents were founding members of Bet Breira (Miami, FL) and activists for Soviet Jewry. She attended the Alexander Muss High School in Israel program, as well as the Tel Aviv Overseas Student Program, and graduated from the University of Maryland with a minor in Jewish studies (major: Journalism, advertising). An internationally recognized copywriter, Alisa also created the award-winning “Earn My Keep,” a financial and life literacy program for children in grades K-6. She leverages her experiences as a speaker, trainer and teacher to nurture her students’ self-efficacy, self-respect and self-reliance. Alisa lives in Potomac with her husband, two kids, overgrown puppy and impressive collection of unfolded laundry.
Kate Wernick – Gan
Mrs. Wernick loves joyful Jewish learning. She has taught Kindergarten and first grade at MachaneTBA and previously at Seven Locks Elementary School, in Prince George’s County, and at Ballet Petite. Her background is in Musical Theatre and she enjoys bringing a bit of drama and magic into her classroom by infusing Torah stories and Midrash with wonder and awe using sensory experiences. Mrs. Wernick is a full time mom to three boys (TBANS students and alumnae) and an active volunteer and philanthropist. When not teaching, she enjoys cooking, exercising, and reading.
