New Neighbor Interfaith Alliance (NNIA) Women's Circle at TBA
12 Dec @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
New Neighbor Interfaith Alliance (NNIA) assists newly settled refugees to lead productive and independent lives in our area, mostly in Montgomery County. Many faith based communities have joined together to support our new neighbors. Help is especially needed now that the resettlement agency funding has been completely cut.
The Women’s Circle (WC) is a very popular monthly program coordinated by TBA members Gail Kaplan-Wassell and Arlynn Joffe. Sherry Nason, another TBA member, is on the NNIA Board and helps coordinate transportation to/from TBA for the women and their children. We provide an engaging educational program as well as a socialization opportunity for the mostly Afghan women. While the women are listening to a speaker or picking out what they want to take home from the donation tables, volunteers help play with the children who are in the same room as the mothers. Most of the kids are ages 5 and under. The Women’s Circle programs are usually on Friday mornings from 10:30 – noon at Temple Beth Ami.
The popularity of this program has really grown and it is such a mitzvah to watch these amazing refugee women learn more about the community we live in and help widen their circle. We also have other NNIA volunteer opportunities as well. If you are interested, contact Sherry Nason at Snason@comcast.net.
