Medication Administration

Parents must sign and submit a “Medication Authorization Form” to allow school staff to provide any medical treatments to children. Any prescription medicine requires approval from a licensed healthcare practitioner, whereas over the counter treatments (e.g., sunscreen, diaper rash ointment, hand lotion) only require a parent signature on the form. Any medication to be given to a child in school must first be administered at home for at least 24 hours, and then must be provided to the school in the original manufacturer’s container. Prescription medications must have a standard pharmacy label stating recipient’s name, medication name, dosage and expiration date.
