COVID Specific Policies
Gan Ami follows the guidelines of our governing agencies, including the Maryland State Department of Education, Maryland and Montgomery County Departments of Health, and the CDC. Protocols described below are current as of 12/1/22.
Masks: Gan Ami is “mask optional,” except in the cases described below.
Vaccines: Children, parents, and visitors are encouraged but not required to be vaccinated. Temple Beth Ami requires all staff to be fully vaccinated in compliance with CDC recommendations. The following procedures apply to all children, regardless of vaccinations status.
Quarantine and Isolation Procedures:
- A child tests positive for COVID:
- Parent must notify the Gan Ami office immediately and the child must stay home for at least 5 days.
- If asymptomatic after 5 days, child may return wearing a mask when indoors for another 5 days.
- If symptomatic after 5 days, child must stay home until symptoms are resolved.
- If unable to wear a mask properly, child must stay home for 10 days.
- After 10 days from positive test, and as long as asymptomatic, child may attend (mask optional).
- Parent must notify the Gan Ami office immediately and the child must stay home for at least 5 days.
- A child is exposed to a non-household member with COVID:
- If the exposure is from another child in Gan Ami, the school office will notify all class parents as soon as possible.
- If the exposure is to another non-household member outside of school, parents must notify the school office as soon as possible.
- Child exposed to a non-household member may attend school wearing a mask indoors for at least 5 days following the exposure.
- Child must take a rapid or PCR test after 5 days and send results to Gan Ami.
- If test is positive or child is symptomatic, they must stay home, notify Program, and follow above protocols.
- A child is exposed to a household member with COVID:
- Parents must notify the school as soon as possible.
- Child must quarantine for 5 days from their LAST exposure to the infected person. Contact the school to determine the correct timeline.

- At the end of the 5-day quarantine (post exposure), child must take a rapid or PCR test and send results to Gan Ami.
- If test is negative and child is asymptomatic, child may attend school (mask optional).
- If test is positive or child is symptomatic, they must stay home, notify Program, and follow above protocols.
- At the end of the 5-day quarantine (post exposure), child must take a rapid or PCR test and send results to Gan Ami.
- A child is exhibiting COVID-like symptoms without any known exposure:
- If at any time, the child develops symptoms associated with COVID or tests positive, then parents must contact the school office for further instructions
