Heather Walter – Inclusion Specialist
Heather Walter has extensive experience in teaching, coaching and supervising teachers in New York City, Maryland, and The District of Columbia. Mrs. Walter has deep knowledge of academic and social-emotional development for children with and at risk for disabilities and is skilled at differentiating instruction for all learners. Her current research interests include the study of non-academic variables associated with teaching and learning in special education as well as educational practices that support prosocial interactions, self-regulation, and overall healthy social emotional development for children with and at risk for disabilities.
Mrs. Walter has a bachelor’s degree in Jewish Education, a master’s degree from Teachers College, Columbia University in Inclusive Elementary Education and Teaching Students with Disabilities, and an Educational Specialist Degree, which prepares administrators for inclusive early intervention/ early childhood special education settings. Ms. Walter is currently pursuing her Doctorate degree in Special Education and Disability Studies at the George Washington University where she also is a visiting faculty in the Early Childhood Special Education Department. She lives in Gaithersburg with her husband and two children and is excited to be back at Machane TBA!
