Deliver bags of Passover and/or Rosh Hashanah necessities and treats to Russian immigrants, Holocaust survivors, and other needy individuals and families in our community. Volunteers can help on one or both holidays.

Where: Items collected in boxes in the Temple lobby/Nursery School or brought to the Montgomery County Child Welfare Office in Rockville

When: Beginning late November into December

Help make the holiday season brighter by donating unwrapped gifts for children in South Lake Elementary School’s Linkages to Learning program, which serves the school’s neediest families. Watch for announcements with more information and bring gifts to the collection boxes in the Temple lobby and Nursery School. 

In our Adopt-a-Family Drive, families affiliated with Montgomery County Child Welfare Services provide a list of holiday gift wants/needs and are matched with a TBA family to provide gifts geared to those wishes. Email your name to Judi Goozh or Robin Temin if you’d like to be contacted in November about the Adopt-a-Family Drive. (Note: Subject to COVID restrictions in the coming year. For example, in 2020, participating TBA families provided gift cards instead of gifts.)

When: Shortly before Thanksgiving

In addition to its year-round efforts to distribute food to the hungry in Montgomery County, Nourish Now conducts an annual Thanksgiving food drive, collecting canned and boxed foods for distribution to needy area families. Needed items include canned yams, carrots, pie filling, chicken broth, green beans, gravy, and cranberry sauce; and boxed instant mashed potatoes, dried stuffing mix, and muffin mix. Watch for information on collection dates and details.

Who: Adults, families (must be age 18 or older to serve dinner at the Inn)
Where: Children’s Inn, NIH, Bethesda, MD
When: A few days before Thanksgiving and on Thanksgiving Day if serving

This project helps make Thanksgiving a little more home-like for families who must stay at NIH’s Children’s Inn with a sick child during the holiday. Volunteers are needed to cook ahead of time, serve (ages 18+), and/or donate toward the dinner.
