Collection Drives

The Tikkun Olam Committee coordinates collections throughout the year to help people in our local community. Click here for a list of our 2022 collection drives. Please support these drives by bringing the specific needed items to the bins in the Temple lobby. Detailed announcements about our collections appear in the weekly TBA emails. Please contact Arlynn Joffe if you have suggestions for future collection drives.

Ongoing Collections

  • Healthy Nonperishable Food for Manna Food Center

Collection boxes are in the Temple lobby year-round to collect nonperishable foods for Manna Food Center. We’re focusing our healthy food collection on instant original flavor oatmeal packets, brown rice (16 oz.), whole- grain pasta (16  oz.), canned tuna (12 oz. or larger), canned salmon, canned chicken in water, dry or canned beans (low sodium), natural nut butters, canned vegetables (low sodium), canned fruit (in juices), fruit cups, shelf-stable individual milk boxes, cooking oils, spices, infant formula, and baby foods. Please, no SPAM, matzah, cookies, or candy. Click here for Manna’s Most Needed Foods List.

  • New: Kosher Nonperishable Food and Other Items for the Capital Kosher Pantry

A collection box is now in the Temple lobby year-round to collect nonperishable, certified kosher foods and other items for the Capital Kosher Pantry (CKP). The CKP is the only kosher food pantry in the greater DC area and addresses food insecurity among those requiring kosher foods. Click here for more information about items we are collecting in the TBA lobby for CKP.

  • Clothing Bins for Interfaith Works

Donated clothing IN GOOD CONDITION can be deposited in the large bins in the back of our parking lot. This bin is supported by Clothing Recycling Company, which distributes the contents to its partners, including the Interfaith Works Clothing Center in Rockville. Click here to generate your tax receipt if you put clothing in the bin.

If you wish all of your items to go directly to the Interfaith Works Clothing Center, please bring them to 751 Twinbrook Parkway, Rockville, MD 20851.

  • Eyeglasses for Lions Club International

The eyeglasses we collect for the Lions Club are distributed to the Lions Recycle for Sight Program for people in need. Look for the small Lions Club collection box in the Temple lobby.

  • Used Cellphones for Secure the Call

Bring your old cellphones and tablets to the Cellphone Donation Barrel in the Temple lobby. Secure the Call goes to great lengths to wipe out the information on all phones/tablets. Phones/tablets are either prepared for distribution to those in need (e.g., seniors & domestic abuse victims) or sent to a recycling center.
