  • Questions for "If you Give a Mouse a Cookie"

After you eat a cookie, do you ask for a glass of milk, or something else?

In this story, when the mouse listens to books, he decides to draw a picture of his family. Can you draw a picture of your family?

For younger children: Do you like muffins or cookies? Grown-ups: There’s a child-friendly recipe on Gan Ami’s website for apple muffins that you may like to try to make together.

For older children: Can you make up a story like this book about yourself? Take turns adding ideas with a grown up. Start with, “When you give me a ____, I’ll probably want to ______.”

  • Questions for "While You Were Sleeping"

What animals sleep during the day and stay awake at night?

What wakes you up in the morning? The sunshine, an alarm clock, a kiss?

For younger children: What stuffed animals sleep in your bed with you?

For older children: Do you have a favorite animal? Why is that your favorite animal?

  • Questions for "The Best Sukkot Pumpkin Ever"

How big is the biggest pumpkin you ever held?

Have you eaten a delicious treat made with pumpkin (roasted seeds, pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup)? Or would you like to try one?

For younger children: Would you like to put a pumpkin in a sukkah, or how could you decorate a pumpkin for another fall holiday?!

For older children: Micah and Ari donated pumpkins to a soup kitchen to help feed other people who don’t have enough to eat. Helping others is a part of Tikkun Olam, repairing the world. What is something you can do to help someone else and to practice “Tikkun Olam”?

  • Questions for "Sadie's Sukkah Breakfast"

What decorations did Sadie and Ori put in their sukkah? What Sukkah decoration would you like to make?

Sadie and Ori said “Hamotzi” to thank God for their food before they ate breakfast. Do you remember that prayer? You can listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0zF23Nf_zI

For younger children: What’s your favorite breakfast food?

For older children: If you could invite a guest to have breakfast with you, who would you like to host (besides your parent or sibling)?

  • Questions for "Is it Rosh Hashanah Yet?" By Chris Barash

What fruits do we eat on Rosh Hashanah?

Can you say “Shanah Tovah”? What does it mean? Can you call a friend/relative and say “Shana Tova” and tell them what it means?

For younger children: Have you ever heard a Shofar blow? Can you make a sound like a Shofar?

For older children: Why do you think we eat honey on Rosh Hashanah? For Rosh Hashanah, would you prefer honey with your apples, honey cake, honey with challah, honey chicken, or something else?

  • Questions for "A Rosh Hashanah Walk" by Carol Levin

Do you know what Tashlich means?

What did the children in the story throw away?

For younger children: What can you do to make someone else feel better?

For older children: What’s a mistake you made (we all make mistakes)? What would you try to do differently next time?
