TOPIC: Jewish & Christian Interpretation of the Prophets
The New Testament and Christian theologies quote regularly from the Hebrew Bible in order to validate their point of view. Most of these quotes are from the Prophets. Naturally, Jewish interpretation and understanding of the words of the Prophets are very different than the Christian understanding of the same words. In most cases, both interpretations are valid based on the theology underlying that interpretation. In this course, we will explore several of these prophetic texts and see what the differences are and what the similarities are between these interpretations and their theological significance. Check Temple e-blast or contact Shelly for Zoom link.
Gideon Amir was born in Holland to Holocaust survivors who went to Israel in 1947. He grew up in Jerusalem and served in the IDF as a Paratrooper and received his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the Weizmann Institute of Science. In 1999, he pursued his interest in Judaic Studies and enrolled in a full-time graduate program at Baltimore Hebrew University, receiving his master’s degree (with honors) and re-directed his passion for teaching from computer science to the teaching of Jewish and Bible subjects. We are honored to have Gideon on our list of Live & Learn favorite facilitators year after year!
